The MCT infrared detector is a highly sensitive photodetector fabricated from HgCdTe (Mercury Cadmium Telluride, MCT) material, which is sensitive to mid-infrared radiation in the 2–12 µm spectral band. The detector can be configured for either DC‑coupled or AC‑coupled output. It is highly integrated with a preamplifier circuit and a semiconductor thermoelectric cooler (TEC) controller, which maintains the detector element at ‑40 °C via a feedback loop, thereby minimizing the impact of thermal noise on the output signal. The detector housing is constructed entirely from aluminum alloy, which not only shields against environmental electromagnetic interference but also provides excellent heat dissipation.
